Traffic alert: BRICS Summit impact on Sandton roads

In light of the upcoming BRICS Summit scheduled at the Sandton Convention Centre next week, the Johannesburg Northing Joint Operations Committee has issued a statement informing the public about road closures and traffic alterations that will be in effect from 20-26 August 2023.

Please take note of the following road impacts: 

1. Maude Street: One-way traffic will be implemented from 5th Street to West Street during the specified dates. 

2. West Street: Lanes closest to the convention centre will be temporarily closed, while the lanes farthest away will remain open for regular traffic. 

3. Alice Lane: Lanes closest to the convention centre will be inaccessible, while the lanes farther away will remain accessible for traffic. 

4. 5th Street: Similar to the other affected roads, the lanes nearer to the convention centre will be closed, whereas the lanes on the opposite side will remain open for regular traffic.

Community members are urged to remain mindful of the anticipated road closures and changes in traffic patterns during the course of the Summit. It is advisable to stay updated with traffic notifications and advisories while navigating the vicinity of the Sandton Convention Centre.

In consideration of the event’s nature, heightened security measures will be in place throughout the Sandton Central Business District (CBD) for the entirety of the summit.
