Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism Launches Initiative to Strengthen Risk Reduction for Tourism Businesses

Recent droughts, floods, and fires in the Western Cape have highlighted the vulnerability of tourism businesses to climate change-induced events. In response, the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism is launching an initiative to enhance the risk reduction capacity of these businesses through information sharing and training.

Throughout August and September, the Department will host training sessions across various districts, aiming to equip tourism businesses and local tourism offices with the tools needed to better manage and mitigate risks. The training sessions will be held at the following locations and dates:

Overberg District:

  • Hermanus: 27 August 2024
  • Bredasdorp: 28 August 2024

West Coast District:

  • Saldanha Bay: 3 September 2024
  • Clanwilliam: 4 September 2024

Central Karoo District:

  • Prince Albert: 10 September 2024
  • Beaufort West: 11 September 2024

All tourism businesses and local tourism offices in these areas are encouraged to attend and take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their risk management strategies.
