July 2023 Tourism and Migration stats revealed by StatsSA

StatsSA has recently published the tourism and migration statistics for July 2023. During this month, a total of 2,551,329 travellers, including arrivals, departures, and transits, passed through South Africa’s ports of entry/exit. Within this group, there were 764,558 individuals classified as South African residents, and 1,786,771 were foreign travellers.

Breaking down the foreign arrivals, 957,501 consisted of 29,331 non-visitors and 928,170 visitors. Among the visitors, there were 236,102 classified as same-day visitors, while 692,068 were overnight visitors, commonly referred to as tourists. A regional breakdown of these tourists is as follows: 161,376 arrived from overseas; 519,422 arrived from SADC countries; 10,290 arrived from ‘other’ African countries; and the country of residence of 980 tourists was unspecified.
