Key findings: P6410 – Tourist Accommodation March 2024

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 7,8% in March 2024 compared with March 2023.

Income from accommodation increased by 10,1% year-on-year in March 2024, the result of a 4,2% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 5,7% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In March 2024, the largest contributors to the 10,1% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

other accommodation (22,4% and contributing 6,2 percentage points); and

hotels (7,2% and contributing 4,7 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 11,8% in the first quarter of 2024 compared with the first quarter of 2023. The main contributors to this increase were:

hotels (10,1% and contributing 6,5 percentage points); and

other accommodation (21,2% and contributing 6,0 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation decreased by 0,4% month-on-month in March 2024 following a decrease of 0,2% month-on-month in February 2024.

Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2019 prices by type of income

Measured in real terms (constant 2019 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 3,7% in March 2024 compared with March 2023. The highest annual growth rates were recorded for ‘other’ income (14,0%) and bar sales (10,3%).

In March 2024, the positive contributors to the 3,7% year-on-year increase were restaurants and coffee shops

(6,2% and contributing 3,3 percentage points) and takeaway and fast-food outlets (3,7% and contributing

1,3 percentage points).

Total income increased by 1,9% in the first quarter of 2024 compared with the first quarter of 2023. The main contributor to this increase was restaurants and coffee shops (3,9% and contributing 2,1 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income for the food and beverages industry decreased by 1,5% in March 2024 compared with February 2024. This followed month-on-month changes of 6,5% in February 2024 and -4,0% in January 2024.
