North West Parks and Tourism Act 2022 published in March 2023

The MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism has published the final North West Parks and Tourism Act 2022 which comes into effect on the 1st April 2023.The original draft Bill was forwarded for public comment back in January 2020.

The Act provides for, amongst others –

  • The repeal of the North West Parks Board Act of 2015
  • The establishment, appointments, functions, objectives and all additional matters concerning the North West Parks and Tourism Board
  • The appointment, objectives, functions and all additional matters concerning the Chief Executive Officer and Staff

The objectives of the Act are, amongst others:

  • The management and control of state owned protected areas
  • The creation and facilitation of tourism promotion; tourism and wild life sector training; tourism investment and the management of state owned tourism facilities within the North West Province.
  • The creation of a support system for new entrants into the industry.
