National Minimum Wage – Research & Investigation into wages & conditions of employment published for comment

The National Minimum Wage Commission has published its report and recommendations on the annual review of the national minimum wage.

This report, published for public comment, will inform the 2023 minimum wage proposal. (1st March 2023 to end February 2024)

  • Eight commissioners representing labour, the community and independent experts have proposed CPI plus 2%
  • Three commissioners representing business have proposed CPI (as at February 2023)
  • One commissioner, listed as an independent expert, has proposed between CPI plus 0.5% and CPI plus 1%

The document provides all of the research and motivations that lead to the various proposals made by the commissioners.

For those wishing to comment, submission should be in writing and addressed to The Directorate, Employment Standards, Department of Employment & Labour, Private Bag X117, Pretoria 001 or by email to nmwreview@labour.gov.za by no later than the 13th January 2023.
