Key Findings: Competition Commission’s Online Intermediation Platform Inquiry

The Competition Commission of South Africa has recently released its Final Report on the Market Inquiry for Online Intermediation Platforms, which encompasses online travel accommodation platforms. The primary objective of this inquiry was to evaluate whether any market characteristics hinder, distort, or restrict competition in accordance with Section 43C of the Competition Act (No. 89 of 1998, as amended). It aimed to draw suitable conclusions in this regard and to rectify these market features through legally binding remedial measures.
