Publication of the Northern Cape Gambling and Liquor Act 2024

The Provincial Government has published the Northern Cape Gambling & Liquor Act – a draft of which was gazetted for public comment back in May 2023.

The document provides for the establishment of a combined Gambling and Liquor Board and sets out all of the statutory requirements relative to both activities.

Generally speaking these requirements are in line with those provided for under the old Gambling Act of 2008 and the Liquor Act of 2009.

Chapters 1 to 4 cover definitions, the objective of the Act and all matters related to the establishment, structure, powers and functions of the Northern Cape Gambling & Liquor Board

Chapter 5 deals with gambling, chapter 6 with liquor and chapters 7 and 8 with enforcement, regulations and transitional arrangements.

It should be noted that the existing Northern Cape Gambling Regulations and Northern Cape Liquor Regulations will remain in force until either one or both are amended.
