StatsSA unveils October 2023 Tourism and Migration insights

StatsSA has recently disclosed key findings on Tourism and Migration for October 2023, shedding light on the dynamics of travellers passing through South Africa’s ports of entry/exit.

In October 2023, a total of 2,648,392 individuals traversed South Africa’s entry and exit points, encompassing arrivals, departures, and transits. Among them, 764,296 were South African residents, while 1,884,096 were foreign travellers. The foreign arrivals numbered 1,000,642, comprising 30,871 non-visitors and 969,591 visitors.

Breaking down the visitor category, there were 238,483 same-day visitors and 731,108 overnight visitors, commonly referred to as tourists. The geographical distribution of tourists is as follows: 189,778 from overseas; 527,616 from SADC countries; 12,495 from ‘other’ African countries. Notably, the country of residence for 1,219 tourists was classified as unspecified.
