New FEDHASA Cape Board embarks on FEDHASA 2.0 approach – Coaching, Collaboration and Commercialisation

Future-proofing the FEDHASA model will be the focus of FEDHASA Cape’s new board, appointed last week at the organisation’s AGM at the Mount Nelson in Cape Town.

The first AGM held in person in three years, the event was an opportunity to take stock of how the association had added value to its members in the past year and; more importantly how it intended to enhance its relevance to members in the coming years with a new board setting its eyes firmly on a FEDHASA 2.0 approach.

Says newly elected FEDHASA Cape Chair Lee-Anne Singer: “Under the areas of Coaching | Collaboration | Commercialisation, we intend to focus on growing our membership to ensure we have a stronger and more-influential voice, as well as launching commercial projects and partnerships that impact on our members’ bottom line, both through cost savings and revenue-generating opportunities.

“FEDHASA sees itself as a connector within the hospitality sector, as well as an enabler for tourism and hospitality businesses. And both of these focus areas build on the excellent lobbying work that has been done by our former chair, Jeremy Clayton, the FEDHASA Cape Board and Secretariat. We are incredibly grateful for the foundations you’ve built.”

“Further, however, is our intention to continue growing our public and private partnerships and to that end we are heartened to say we’ve cemented strong partnerships over the past few years; one such with Wesgro, which along with FEDHASA and several other associations comprise JAMMS.

“It has been and will continue to be a priority for us to nurture these relationships and we will continue to do so in the spirit of stronger together,” says Singer.

Speaking at the event, Wesgro CEO Wrenelle Stander, said: “It’s a great privilege to be able to address tourism and hospitality leaders in person at this year’s FEDHASA Cape AGM. We’re starting to see green shoots of recovery after two challenging years. We are very pleased to see the Western Cape economy restarting in so many ways, including some unique multi-year opportunities emerging out of the energy crisis in South Africa.

“During the event, I had an opportunity to unveil Wesgro’s new US Tourism Campaign, which seeks to attract travellers using the authentic voices of American ex-pats who came to the Cape and never left, fondly called the ‘Neverending Tourists’

– we are looking forward to welcoming this important market and I can say with confidence that we will deliver on our promise as a world-class tourism destination.”

During the event, FEDHASA Cape members elected their board which comprises:

Chairperson:

Lee-Anne Singer

Hotels segment:

Chairperson: Lesego Majatladi

Alternate: Glyn Taylor

Small Accommodation segment:

Chairperson: Lee Dicks

Alternate: Neil Hughes

Alternate: Dawn Smith

Trusted Partner segment:

Chairperson: Faried Jones

Alternate: Ian Lumsden

Young Professionals segment:

Alternate: Phelokazi Mbebe

“This dynamic group of individuals will bring new energy to FEDHASA Cape’s efforts to enhance the value we deliver to members and I am convinced we will make a real difference to our organisation and the hospitality sector at large.

“If we’ve learnt anything in the past two years, there’s no limit to what we can achieve when we put our heads and hearts together, so let’s do tourism together,” Singer concludes.
