Fraudster arrested

On Friday last week we notified our members of two separate incidents of fraud and theft in the Western Cape.

We are happy to report back that the alert sent led to the arrest of one of the suspects.

Shortly after the alert was sent, the owner of Ramasibi Guest Services realised that the suspect had checked in at the property and alerted the relevant authorities.

JJ Pieterse, owner of Ramasibi provided the following feedback:

Thank you SO much for the Fraud Alert below that I received this afternoon and immediately realised that the perpetrator had checked in at Ramasibi yesterday using the exact same modus operandi where a Dr Melanie Lombaard requested accommodation for him including all meals plus R300 per day for incidentals.

I immediately called our PWP Neighbourhood Watch to ensure the person does not escape and because I did not want to apprehend the suspect by myself.

I also called the Protea Hotel Tygerberg to obtain their case number without which SAPS would not have been able to arrest the person.

Both local Neighbourhood Watch companies waited at the premises to ensure the perpetrator did not escape until SAPS appeared, got my statement, and took the person away in the Police pickup van where he will be experiencing the SAPS accommodation for the weekend before appearing in the Magistrates Court on Monday.

This again proves the value of networking and belonging to as many different associations where information is shared to all in the industry.
