FEDHASA Cape launches mentorship programme aimed at young industry leaders
August 2017: As part of FEDHASA Cape’s ongoing commitment to developing strong leaders in the hospitality industry, the association launched the FEDHASA Cape Young Professionals Mentorship Initiative to grow young leaders in the industry specifically through mentorship.
According to Ndaba Dube, chairperson of FEDHASA Cape’s Young Professionals segmentthe 12-month programme teams up young industry professionals with a mentor whose experience matches the aspirations of a specific mentee. Following the pair off process, which is still underway, the two commit to meet for a minimum of two hours per month to discuss key elements like: improving time management, dealing with the pressures that come with working in the hospitality industry, and the value of networking.
“This is not a job shadowing programme, it’s a mentorship and guidance programme that aims to assist young industry professionals enhance their skills, establish a clear career path, as well as assist with overall personal and professional development,” says Dube.
After each session, candidates are required to populate a monthly feedback form, which highlights the main points covered during the session and helps mentor’s evaluate a candidate’s performance and success at the end of the programme.
