City Lodge Hotel Group celebrated its 30th “Pearl” anniversary on 1 August, together with its first hotel, City Lodge Hotel Bryanston in Johannesburg. The group, headed up by CEO Clifford Ross, marked the occasion with a “call back the past” cake-cutting celebration with a difference. Bordered with pearls to reflect the Pearl Anniversary, a beautiful (and tasty) cake was made for the occasion.
The hotel’s first general manager, Roberta Rosa, was present, along with two employees who worked in the hotel when it opened on 1 August 1985, and who still work for the group today. Breakfast chef, Monica Kekana, has been meeting the breakfast needs of guests at the hotel for 30 years while Lynda Schroeder has been group purchasing manager for several years.
The hotel’s first three general managers were present: Roberta Rosa, now GM of The Michelangelo Hotel in Sandton; Clifford Ross, City Lodge Hotel Group CEO; and Tony Balabanoff, divisional director of operations at the City Lodge Hotel Group. They enjoyed reminiscing with the hotel’s current general manager, Brenda Botha.
The hotel industry has certainly changed a lot during the past three decades, but the basics still remain the same – comfortable rooms, friendly service, convenient locations and value for money pricing. Pictured above celebrating this important milestone for the hotel group: –
